Cold Food (寒食) by Han Hong (韩翃)

Nowhere do petals not fly in the springtime city
Willows bow against Eastern wind when food must be cold
At sunset, the Han palace sets candles on course ‘round
Their faint smoke wafting into the home of brothers five

Original Text
春城无处不飞花,寒食东风御柳斜。
日暮汉宫传蜡烛,轻烟散入五侯家。

Translator’s Notes
The ‘brothers five’ refer to the five relatives of Empress Wang Zhengjun‘s that were quickly burned through in terms of succession.
