Character Guide and Glossary
Xue Ling grumbled inwardly. When he had left, Sui Zhou had just been found by Mister Millarch for a talk, and thus nonchalantly ordered him to go invite Tang Fan over. The time he had been following Sui Zhou wasn’t short, so he naturally understood that a command like that wasn’t urgent in the least. Who could’ve known that Boss Sui would be sitting here in wait, though?
“Brother, Sir Tang has arrived,” he quickly said. “I’ll withdraw beforehand, if there’s nothing else?”

The translator says: Some people are objecting (and rudely! where’s your manners!) to the way I translate. I regret to inform them that I simply don’t care at all what they think. I go with my gut when translating, and have fun with terms as I see fit. This is how I’ve always done it. Nothing I do is without valid reason behind it.
If you’re trying to be persnickety n’ pompous with terms in a foreign novel you’re reading for free, by a fan who’s doing this voluntarily, from a language you probably aren’t even proficient in since you’re here instead of just reading said novel in its original dialect… rethink your whole self, it’s ugly.
the correct comment for this chapter:
I love that xue ling and tang fan initially forged a friendship thru food, but then deepend the friendship thru tang fan’s own personality and way of thinking.
i actually love that that’s how he’s also winning over the ml ❤️

I’ve been trying to leave a comment but it’s not showing 😭 idk what’s going on? But well, tldr, I really love your translations very much, chichi. But more than that, I love the funny and witty remarks you make in the translator notes and comments, that show a bit of you and your personality. They make me laugh a lot and sometimes make my day better.
That is to say, I like your work, but also like(appreciate) you as a human being.
Thank you very much for all you do (and for being you).

My comment is perhaps too late, but I feel the need to say it: It truly baffles me that any reader would critisize your translation. I’ve read some of your previous projects and know well that your translation is a positive addition to the source material, oftentimes enhancing the enjoyment of reading. Imo, translating is not simply a word-for-word process between two languages (that’s something that a machine can do in seconds), but also an interpretation of the author’s intention- and that requires a very good understanding of the cultural context. That is even more necessary for a language like Chinese that is multi-layered, rich in references, and complex when it comes to jokes and puns. You especially choose to translate novels that are not about everyday life and simple interactions, but about politics, history, aand generally more “specialised” terms. I know some translators avoid taking up historical or fantasy works because it’s so difficult to translate them adequately, and I completely respect their choice. Which makes it all the more important to respect and appreciate translators like you, who willingly put themselves into a months or years long project like this. Thank you for your hard work, please be assured that some of us are extremely grateful for what you’re doing.

That means a lot, hon! But don’t worry about this. I don’t even remember what the annoying nitpicker was nitpicking about anymore.

It’s a shame that some people criticize your amazing work! I’ve read quite a few novels on chichilations and I couldn’t be more delighted for having the chance to read them with such high quality translation. I even picked Chichi’s translation out of the other options listed on Novel Uptades, ’cause I already knew that I wouldn’t have a hard time trying to understand what’s going on in the story. People should just shut up instead of spitting so much bullcrap all the time.

After reading your footnote I was really surprised…
What kind of people would insult your work and on what grounds?
I always feel extremely grateful to everybody who voluntarily translates Chinese novels into English. I can only hope the motivation to finish work will stay strong, as I can only imagine how much effort and time it requires.
Your translation is very coherent, understandable, pleasant to read.
Just want to say big, fat, sincere “Thank you”! I really appreciate the huge job you are doing.

Thank you for your translation. There are some other translations, but this one is the only one I can understand since English is a foreign language for me (to say nothing about Chinese).
So don’t listen to anyone criticizing your wok, it’s good the way it is.

Hi Chichi. I’m quite confused here. SZ said Ah Lin intended to seduce the coxcomb and so it was consensual and she wouldn’t hurt him but earlier in the text, it said that he dragged her into his room and she was fighting him. That doesn’t sound consensual to me. Which sequence of events happened or did I misread it warlier? Thanks.

Hi! I have been catching up with the TL on my day off and I hope my inquiry about your stance on pinyin (back at Ch 5) and such wasn’t the one that came across as objecting or rude but if it did or of it made you upset, I’m so sorry! (It was truly meant as a mix of professional&nerdy curiosity and not as a critique of your choices as a translator.)
I enjoy your translations a great deal and I have a lot of respect for fan translators since it requires not an insignificant amount of passion, not to mention effort and time, so once again: if I happened to be the person that you are refrencing, I am trully sorry for being overbearing, and, well, if not, I still would rather apologize for not doing someething than potentially hurt or disrespect someone inadvertently.

Nay, it wasn’t you at all. The certain people in question you won’t see, because I deleted their comments. That T/N is for them, and anyone like them, to read carefully, and know that I will never give a flying fuck what they think.
I welcome genuine questions about the way I do things, like yours. I don’t welcome bratty word tantrums that I won’t read, like theirs.

I’ve read many BL novels and your translation work is outstanding. 🌟
It is very kind of you to do this voluntarily and with great zeal and dedication. Without great translators like yourself around, I would have missed out on so many amazing stories. Thank you 🙏🌈❤️👏🌹🌻
