Night at the Watchtower (閣夜) by Du Fu (杜甫)

The year’s curtain call on yin and yang ushers shortening scenes
At the end of the world, the blizzard clears up on a cold night
When fifth watch comes, the sound of drums and horns move and stir the heart
The star river’s image billows high above the Three Gorges
Wild cries of a thousand families are heard for the waged war
Distant songs aplenty arise from faraway fishermen
A hero’s galloping horse will end up as loess yellow
Humanity’s noise and letters slow, leaving the rest at peace

Original text
