  1. I am really amazed by the author and translator. Do we live in the same time or are you transmigrators from a historical period? The writing style and flow of this novel are impeccable.

  3. That confession — I am melting in their sweetness. I love the way this couple communicates, and YXH refusing to let any miscommunication put a wedge in their relationship. His “ you are set up high within my heart, and no one can reach you,” is just about the most perfect way to nip any budding jealousy at its root.

  10. They are so cute i have a toothache. Just kidding, I really love their dynamics, when i read about their interactions, it makes me smile.
    The novel reminds me SPL by priest a lot. The most common thing is that i often got confused by all the politics and intrigues. 😀
    I really love that the translator translates all the words into english, cz i still have difficulties in differentiating btw shifu and shidi not talking about some more difficult words. It really make comprehension much easier. Thanks for your hard work!

  12. I remember you saying when you posted your first chapter of this novel that you aren’t a “hot shit translator” – but let me tell you, the quality you deliver is consistently damn solid. Even on the nitpicky levels it’s really good. I’m also really glad that you seem to stay away from pinyin as much as you can, while “Flying Dragon Guard Royal Inspector Envoy” is a real mouthful (ehehehe…. :3c) it’s so much easier to follow everything when the pinyin is limited.

    As for Golden Stage the novel itself: hahaha I am so, so happy that I decided reading it. The bantering, the tenderness, the fact that the happy spouses are going to send people on both sides into an early grave with their flirting. (I swear, I laughed like a madman when I read the part with the geese and the buckskins, I feel so sorry for their underlings.) I just really love it when I read about a couple who actually respects one another and treats each other well and doesn’t engage in creepy dominance crap.

    Ahhhhh, so good. So good. So cute.

    (And wow, am I ever incredibly happy that you picked up this novel, I’ve had the same experience of some adored novels be ruined by MTL crud and I never realized how much it could sting when that happens.)

    • Ah, sorry for the lateness! Been busy and I wanted to give this nice comment a proper reply.

      Before I knew much about Chinese at all, reading translations with too much pinyin made my eye twitch, so I just keep that feeling in mind. Furthermore, any professional, paid translator worth their salt would also avoid pinyin – and even footnotes – like the plague. I go by the rule “if the word ain’t proper, chop ‘er”, the exceptions to which I can count on one hand. (English words are easiest to remember for people who speak English, go figure.)
      Have you ever tried reading the novel ‘To Be a Virtuous Wife’? Only three paragraphs in and you’ll be going “oh no”.

      Novels like GS are too rare, really… I generally rate MLs anymore by asking myself, “if a man treated me like this, would I kill him and dance on his corpse with no remorse?” If the answer’s yes, he’s a bad ML, and I’ve had ‘yes’ answers way too many times. (Yan-gege’s obviously a firm no and I’d die for him tbh.) Possessive yandere crap is overrated and gross, no matter the culture or genre or pairing type, and anyone who says otherwise knows nothing.

      (*stares intensely into the flames of the dumpster fire that happened to Thousand Autumns* I agree.)

      • What happened to Thousand Autumns? I have been waiting for the translations to complete before binging it. Plot seems promising, does it go downhill?

      • There was a translation of TA that horrifically butchered it, and also upset the previous, much better translator. They bad one went away eventually. No comment on the plot, but TA is still one of my big favorites, if that says anything.

      • I feel you! I hate those sort of MLs, but they’re quite popular so authors keep using them. I try ignore them and focus on the story, but if it’s impossible, I abandon it. If I don’t at least try to ignore and give the story a chance, there will not be a lot of available translated novels to read…

  14. Lol, thank you for confirming. I’m trying to read between the lines and sometimes I’m not sure. I hope we get some sort of details later on (I know it’s nothing explicit). Anyway, I’m so glad I found this novel! Sometimes it gives me Sha Po Lang vibes!

  19. So many updates!! Amazing!!! I’ve been dying ever since FS teased YXH at the brothel and then this chapter was the nail in my coffin. RIP me. They just have such a great dynamic!! And YXH reciting scriptures, lol.
